RESULTS OF «ELBRUS RING» CONTEST
Teams from 4 countries are taking part in the contest
FIRST STAGE

Special task performance on objects of the Terskol centre


1. CLIMBING ON THE WALL INDIVIDUALLY
Competition in climbing on the 15-m wall using no climbing equipment.

2. CLIMBING ON THE WALL IN TEAMS
— first person climbs along the assigned route on the altitude of 15 meters to the place of organization of the station
— ascent of the second person using fixed rope
— changing the leader and moving to the second station
— descent using the rope
3. MOUNTAIN OBSTACLE COURSE.
Should be done at the mixed slope, length – 300-400 meters.
Each soldier should go mountainous obstacle course in the following way:

— To run up to the first obstacle «ammo box», lift the rope with a box weighing 24 kg to the height of not less than 5 m, to put the box to its initial position slowly and holding the rope by hands.
— To descend on vertical railings to the depth not less than 5 m using figure 8 descender.
— To run up to the third obstacle and to overcome the 2-3m wide creek stepping on the rocks in water.
— To run up to fourth obstacle and to walk on the swinging log
(length not less than 5 m, diameter 20-30 cm).
— To overcome the destroyed bridge (width 0.5 m, length not less than 3 meters).
— To run up to the obstacle «rock».
— To climb a steep slope (elevation 30-35°), length 40-45 meters (allowed to use the railings) and to touch by the hand the control point located on a cliff.
— To descend the slope (elevation 30-35°), length 40-45 meters with prussik belay (the same climbing route).

— To go through limited passage length not less then 5 m, height 0.5 m.
— To climb on the vertical railings (using jumar) at the height
not less than 3 meters.
— To cross the water obstacle using «flying fox» (length 30-40 m, height 5-7 m) «lying on the rope» and to approach grenades throwing line.
— To throw grenades on the trench (width-1-2 m, length 2-4 m), which is dug in the slope (elevation 30-35°). Distance to the trench is 20-25 m, F-1 grenades (weight 600 g) are throwing line. Each soldier throws grenade standing or from run. If the grenade falls behind the trench and then it rolls down to it, it is considered as successful attempt.
— After grenades throwing soldier climbs a steep (40-45°) grass slope, length 25-30 meters and crosses the finish line.

GROUP FIRING SESSION IN MOUNTAINS

The group firing session should be done on the lawny slope with the distance to target not less than 600 m and elevation not less than 45 degrees.

On the front 5 m.
Appear twice for 10 s.
Distance to the targets: 350-400 m.
THE OBSERVER: HEAD
SILHOUETTE (TARGET #5)
Appears once for 10 s.
Distance to the target: 500-550 m.
ATTACKING GROUP:
THREE FULL-HEIGHT TARGETS
(TARGET #8)
On the front 15-20 m.
Appear three times for 5 s.
With gap of 5-10 s.
Distance to the targets: 450-500 m.
LYING GROUP: MG CREW AND
BREAST-SILHOUETTE
(TARGETS #10A AND #6)
Appear once for 10 s.
Distance to the target: 350-400 m.
MG (TARGET #10)
Appears once for 10 s.
Distance to the target: 350-400 m.
HALF-SILHOUETTE
AND BREAST-SILHOUETTE TARGETS
(TARGETS #7 AND #6)
At the front 4-6 m.
Appear three times for 5 s.
With gap of 5-10 s.
Distance to the target: 300-350 m.
RIFLEMAN
HEAD-SILHOUETTE TARGET
(TARGET #5)
Appears once for 10 s.
Distance to the target: 300-350 m.
SECOND STAGE

Foot marching in high mountains and performing special tasks on overcoming different forms of mountainous terrain

5. CROSSING RIVER ON A LOG
Should be done at a mountain river with width of no less than 6 meters and current speed up to 10 m/s.

The group crosses the river on the log:
- three main ropes are attached to the narrow end of a log;
- «stone bag» is made on the bank;
- the thick end of the log is put in it and the log is set on the opposite bank with the ropes.

The team crosses the river one by one as it was told by the commander.
6. CROSSING A RIVER USING "FLYING FOX"
Should be done at a mountain river with minimal width
of 6 meters and current speed up to 10 m/s.
The group crosses the river using "flying fox":
- one serviceman crosses the river;
- both ropes are fixed to the support;
- both ropes are strained using block and tackle;
- soldiers with personal weapons cross the river.
All equipment is packed after river-crossing.

7. MOUNTAIN SLOPE CROSSING.
Should be done at a rocky slope, length not less
than 60 meters and average elevation not less than 45 degrees.
The group overcomes the rock area:
- the first rope team makes the rock area passable for the others;
- the entire group overcomes the rock area;
- the last rope team removes all equipment.

8. ICE SLOPE CROSSING
Should be done at the icy slope, length not less than 100 meters and average elevation is 60 degrees.
The group overcomes the icy area:
- the first rope team makes the icy area passable for the others;
- the entire group overcomes the icy area;
- the last rope team removes the equipment.
9. AIRBORNE LANDING AND BATTLE MARCH
The group is inserted by landing of MI-8 helicopter, it moves to an assembling point located 500 m away from landing site.

10. MARCH ON COMPASS BEARING
Should be done at the mixed slope, total area 5 sq km.
The group receiving the task and and conducts a 10-km marching passing 5 checkpoints.

11. TRANSPORTING THE INJURED

Should be done at the mixed slope. Length not less than 2000 meters, average elevation not less than 30 degrees.
The group in the initial area using climbing equipment prepares one of the individuals for transportation on the 2-km long distance with elevation not less than 30 degrees.

12. ICE SLOPE CROSSING
Should be done at the icy slope. The length not less than 100 meters, elevation not less than 60 degrees. The semicemen descend using descender with prussik belay.
The last soldier prepares the system for ice screw unscrewing and descends on the double rope with the prussik belay with subsequent pulling off the ropes.

THIRD STAGE

ascent to the Elbrus (5,642 m) with standard weapons

13. BATTLE MARCH WITH WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT
Should be done at the mixed slope, length of 20 km with a total difference in altitude of about 2,200 m.
Route: Azau glade — "Ledovaya baza" — "Priyut-11" (alt. 4,200 m)

14. CLIMBING ON THE ELBRUS
Groups are starting moving along the classical route (from south) to the western top of the Elbrus mountain (alt. 5,642 m). The climb is carried out in group, the distance between the first and last soldier in the group is not more than 150 meters (keeping direct visibility of each other).
